BREAKING NEW GROUND.
Genworth employees have a long history of volunteering in the community as mentors to at-risk youth, builders of homes for low income families and more. A new effort, the Skills-Based Volunteer Program, is proving to be a win-win for employees and nonprofits alike. Volunteers develop existing leadership and technical skills when they are matched with non-profits in need of marketing, accounting, financial and planning assistance
"By helping William Byrd Community House with some of their internal processes, we're ensuring that William Byrd can continue transforming lives," says Theresa Moore, director of operations training and talent development. Following a successful pilot in Richmond, Genworth will expand the Skills-Based Volunteer Program to Genworth communities like Lynchburg and Shannon, Ireland.
The Skills Based Volunteer pilot wrapped up on May 5th with a cupcake party for all the programs. Mary Heather Parch from Genworth Foundation presented a check to our Executive Director, Robert Bolling in the names of the Genworth team that made the pilot such a huge success. William Byrd Community House would like to give a special thanks to Gia Owens, Devna Webster, Garway Bright and Hanson Mabry for all of their enthusiasm and hard work in creating a new corporate volunteer program.

Leadership Metro Richmond Offers Guidance to WBCH Program
William Byrd Community House is proud to have been selected by Leadership Metro Richmond (LMR) as one of this year's community service projects. Each year, Leadership Quest class, the LMR flagship program, is divided into groups to work together on community service projects, which are submitted by nonprofit organizations throughout the Richmond community. These organizations, traditionally with big hearts and small budgets, look to LMR class members to not only apply their professional skills and acumen to the task at hand, but also to throw themselves at the assignment with the kind of energy and creativity that breeds results.
This year, WBCH is working with LMR's Team Happy to help with our Northside Youth Initiative - our youth-led, youth-driven approach to providing much needed youth services to Richmond's Northside neighborhoods. Specifically, the professionals from Team Happy are helping William Byrd leadership establish a strategic plan for the Northside Youth Initiative. Already benefiting from the fruits of Team Happy's labor, a meeting of key public officials and civic leaders has convened to discuss the possibility of a permanent location for a youth development center. Still to come are meetings with Northside youth service providers and Northside citizens. A sincere thank you goes out to LMR on behalf of William Byrd and those we are serving through this partnership.
