April 7, 2010:WBCH Recognizes our Volunteers during National Volunteer Month
We look forward to spring for so many reasons but one of the things that I am especially reminded of is the work of our volunteers.
Over the years William Byrd Community House has been truly touched by the numerous friends who support our programs with their time.
Individuals from all walks of life: scouts, faith groups, business and civic organizations bring their knowledge and talents to each of our programs.
For example, members of The Kiwanis Club of Richmond have volunteered every week for the last fourteen years. Their dedication to our children has made a difference in many lives over the years.
The Rotary Club of Richmond, which has been working with WBCH since the 1960’s, is currently helping to put in a new Early Childhood Program playground.
Employees from Ernst & Young, Starbucks, Capital One, Genworth Financial, NewMarket and Wellpoint are doing amazing projects throughout the year.
Members of the faith community support us through multiple activities year round with youth groups and congregations working with our children, on our grounds and with other projects such as painting our gym.
Students from University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Union University augment staff work and learn valuable skills in our programs.
Our volunteers do everything from reading to a child, scraping paint, moving compost, mentoring a youth, teaching classes, throwing parties and answering the phones; and they come up with new and fun ways to serve every day.
What is your special skill? We invite you to join us! We have volunteer opportunities waiting for you.
